LMS 4-6-2 Princess Royal class No 6204 'Princess Louise' is seen standing at Platform One on an up express service to Euston

LMS 4-6-2 Princess Royal class No 6204 'Princess Louise' is seen standing at Platform One on an up express service to Euston circa 1930s. Built by Crewe works in July 1935 as LMS No 6204 to a design by William Stanier, later Sir William Stanier and formerly of the Great Western Railway, the design was widely regarded as a being based on the GWR's 4-6-0 King class locomotives but with a Pacific 4-6-2 wheel base. Whilst successful the later Princess Royal Coronation class with a larger boiler, cylinders and better internal streamlining to steam passages is recognised by many as being the ultimate British Pacific locomotive. The Princess Royal class were most associated with the express services between Liverpool and Euston and No 46204 was no exception being withdrawn in October 1961 from Edge Hill shed in Liverpool to be scrapped during May 1962 by Crewe works.
