Rugby Station - Pre-grouping Locomotives: lnwrrm841

An unidentified LNWR 0-8-0 C1 class goods locomotive is seen approaching Rugby on an up coal train comprised of Private Owner wagons circa 1919-23. The C1 class were rebuilt from FW Webbs' Class A three-cylinder compounds. The change being initiated by Charles Bowen-Cooke between 1909 and 1912 when thirty-four were constructed. When rebuilt all the C1 locomotives retained their original LNWR numbers, which were in the 18xx or 25xx series. All members of the class passed into LMS ownership with the LMS assigning them Nos 8968 to 9001, sequentially in order of rebuild date. Not all numbers were applied before the locomotives were withdrawn.
