Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Patriot class No 45506 'The Royal Pioneer Corps' heads past the coaling tower at the head of an up express. The locomotive is wearing the early BR black livery with the legend 'British Railways' on the tender. Built as LMS No 5506 by Crewe works in July 1932, this locomotive was notionally rebuilt from a former LNWR Claughton locomotive. Having been named in September 1948 at Euston No 45506 was to remain in service until February 1962 when it was withdrawn from 82E Barrow Road shed in Bristol.
