View of Rugby's No 1 type Coaling Plant introduced as part of the LMS's modernisation programme. Electrically operated and built of reinforced concrete it had two 150 ton bunkers which was twice that of the No 2 type employed at the LMS' secondary depots. The coal was discharged from the wagon into one of the two receiving bunkers (each containing a different quality of coal) which had a two way flap valve for dropping into the main bunker beneath. When the locomotive's bunker or tender was positioned underneath a 'jigger' moved the coal forward to drop into the tender/bunker.
