LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Harborne

A November 1934 view of Rotton Park Road station sign sited at the Birmingham end of the island platform. This was one of a number of views taken by 'Cam' Camwell during the last week of passenger operation. The gas light is of a different pattern to that seen in several images including 'lnwrrp84a' and appears to be a replacement. The LNWR lower quadrant signal is in the 'off' position meaning it it has been set to allow traffic to pass on to the Rotton Park Road to Icknield Port section of the line. The necessity of having a passing loop was removed when passenger services were withdrawn so both the loop and the station were removed thereby saving the railway the cost of a porter signalman, which was the lowest grade of signalman.
