The box in the lower left hand corner was to enable staff to communicate with the signal boxes at Harborne and the junction with the Stour Valley line. Whilst the levers used to operate the pointwork and signalling were situated on the platform the staffs held in the single line apparatus which controlled the single line working either side of the station were located within the building as seen in image 'lnwrrp1526'.
