LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield

Looking towards Lichfield along the up platform after the accident had demolished much of the platform structure. This view provides an excellent view of the sharp curve on which the station was sited and was the reason for the severe speed limit for traffic passing through the station. In the foreground can be seen a barrow crossing for porters use. The building on top left is Sutton Town Hall Council House, but was the original Sutton Rail Terminal Hotel opened in 1865. The line was extended to Lichfield in 1884.
