LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Ex-LMS 0-6-0 4F No 44444 is seen starting a down freight out of Soho station's sidings in June 1961. The first vehicle behind the tender is one of the converted tenders used by the LMS [later British Railways (Midland) division] to carry the locomotive sludge from Bescot for disposal. Built as LMS No 4444 by Crewe works in December 1927, No 44444 ran for another two years in service after the above photograph was taken before being withdrawn from Springs Branch shed at Wigan in September 1963.
