Looking towards Washwood Heath along Station Road with the Stechford station's main building on the junction with Victoria Street. The main station building was constructed of timber a common practice of the LNWR as it was erected on top of the bridge spanning the railway lines. This meant the building was substantially lighter but it had the disadvantage that it was not 'air tight' and smoke from passing trains could often penetrate the interior. In addition sparks and embers from passing locomotives occasionally caused this type of building to catch fire.
