Looking from the New Street end of the up slow platform towards Aston with the main station building located on Duddeston Mill Road in 1955. The main station building housing the booking office was located at road level on the bridge carrying the Duddeston Mill Road over the slow up and fast down lines. The building caught fire in the middle 1950s and consequently was so damaged it had to be rebuilt. The original 1869 station seem above was of a style common to that found elsewhere on the LNWR in the locality: at Stechford on the London to Birmingham Route; Winson Green on the Stour Valley line; and at Shilton and Brinklow on the Trent Valley line. The basic design of the main station building was a brick built facade facing on to the road with either brick or timber walls to the the two sides and rear carried on steel girders. In this instance brick is the material used for the rear wall and probably the side walls.
