Looking beneath the roadside station structure towards Wolverhampton and the junction with the Soho line to Walsall. When the line to Perry Barr and Walsall was built Winson Green station had to be modified to accommodate the extra pair of tracks. The new lines were laid down alongside the Stour Valley lines. This required the original up platform to be converted to an island platform but still to be served by the original passenger staircase. A larger waiting room was erected in order to serve both routes and was equipped with two waiting rooms. It is believed that one was the general waiting room whilst the other was for ladies only, a common facility from the opening of railways up to the outbreak of the First World War. The down platform on the Perry Barr route was served by a fully enclosed timber footbridge which can be seen above the island waiting room. The lamp post on the right appears to have been converted from gas to electrical power whilst the wall mounted lamp on the Perry Barr route's down platform is a more modern built for purpose design with the wiring contained in external tubular ducting.
