LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Lifford Station Junction: mr_lif4812
An unidentified ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive passes Lifford
Station Junction signal box with an up goods train during the 1950s. On the
right is an unidentified ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 locomotive traversing the Lifford Loop
on its way to the former Midland Railway's Central Goods depot. Erected in the
'V' of the junction is a Permanent Way hut used by the P&W gang for their
mess facility. Each gang would be responsible for a section of the route and
would inspect the rails, sleepers, keys and chairs on a regular basis. The
track was described as Permanent Way to distinguish it from the contractor
temporary track when the line was first built.
