View along the down platform towards Redditch as a freight
train is seen shunting in the yard. The station master's house would have
undoubtedly accommodated the Midland Railways' station master but whether it
also provided accommodation for the Great Western Railway's station master is
unknown. The house was large by Victorian standards and it wasn't uncommon for
the station master's house to also provide accommodation for other staff.
Recorded station masters are:
- Midland Railway - Samuel Pepper in 1896 and 1900,
Frederick Watkins in 1904 and 1908, John Tuffley in 1916.
- Great Western Railway - Edward Foster in 1896, JR Pyne
in 1900, OJ Pocock in 1904 and 1908, W Everitt in 1923 (after the line
re-opened) who was promoted to Bletchington in December 1927. After a short
period where a relief man was drafted in a Mr JN Billington was appointed in
April 1928.
- London Midland Scottish Railway/British Railways -
Frank Pattle until 1948 succeeded by Rank Dainton who remained in post until
the early 1950s.
