LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Alcester Station: mra1291
Looking north during the 1930s towards Redditch from the
down platform with the goods shed seen on the right. The goods shed was
equipped with a platform mounted hand operated fixed crane with a 30 CWT Safe
Working Load capacity. The line running in front of the goods shed divided into
two sidings with the nearest running in to a loading dock for the transhipment
of road vehicles etc. The other line which remained parallel to the goods shed,
served four cattle or livestock pens. This would serve the local livestock
market held in Alcester each Thursday, by HJ Rowley who had a sale yard and
abattoir adjacent to the station, when several loads of cattle would be
dispatched, notably to Birmingham.
