LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

Alcester Station: mra130a

Close up of image 'mra130' showing the trackwork to Alcester station's goods yard sidings and on the right, the shed, cattle dock and carriage landing. In the distance, to the left of the lower quadrant signal, the GWR Bearley branch locomotive shed can be seen. The siding which passes to our right of the signal box looped around to rejoin the main line just before the junction with the GWR branch as can be seen in image 'mra470'. The pointwork beneath the loading gauge is quite complex allowing for a combination of five different routes. Although an expensive solution than two or three simple turn outs it saved space by concentrating the different sets of moving trackwork to within the length of one standard turn out.
