LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Alcester Station: mra138
View of one of the flood damaged bridges carrying the line
over the River Arrow between Alcester and Wixford in January 1901. Flooding was
not unknown to this stretch of the line but as Bob Essery remarks in his book,
damage on this scale was not very frequent. The line crossed the River Arrow
twice between Alcester and Wixford and clearly this section of the line
required extensive repairs after the floods of 1901. The trackwork can be seen
to be suspended in the air after the storm water has washed away the ballast
from under the railway sleepers.
