Close up of image 'mrb478' showing the passenger steps which
led up from Bournville station's platform to Maryvale Road. The station
nameboard, also called a 'running in board' was erected by British Railways
circa 1954 and was painted a maroon background with cream/straw lettering. Each
region of British Railways had their own colour. The regional colours were:
- Midland Region - Maroon
- Scottish Region - Light blue
- North Eastern Region - Tangerine
- Eastern Region - Light Green
- Southern Region - Dark Green
- Western Region - Brown (although they did try black as
an experiment for Western Region signs).
The concrete electric lamps were also erected under British
Railways' patronage.
