View of the embankment and bridge carrying the Coventry to New
Street line over the Derby to New Street line with Landor Street seen on the
right. The line of the original route from Derby is marked by the remains of
the viaduct seen on the right. The original junction was built at the same
level as the former L&BR line, with the MR trains joining the 'queue' with
LNWR trains to gain access to New Street station. The expansion of New Street
station with separate platforms for the Midland Railway also saw the lines
being quadrupled from this point onwards with the MR lines on the West (other)
side. The underbridge seen above allowed MR trains to join the line on the
western side of the embankment and thereby avoid the inevitable delays which
would otherwise occur. In the distance and on the right are wagons standing on
Exchange Sidings opposite a factory owned by Wrights Ropes Ltd.
