LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Castle Bromwich Station: mrcb1021
Ex-S&D 3F 0-6-0 No 43194 is seen at the head of a
freight en-route to Kings Norton during May 1957. The locomotive is fresh out
of the shops and is returning to its home shed of 71H Templecombe. However it
is recorded that the locomotive suffered a 'hot box' and was seen on 19th May
at Gloucester Barnwood shed awaiting the return of its centre wheels and axle,
these having been returned to Derby for attention. The locomotive is equipped
with extra sandpipes - as can be seen near to the bufferbeam - a standard
modification on all Somerset & Dorset Railway locomotives.
