LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Castle Bromwich Station: mrcb39
Ex-MR 2P 4-4-0 No 375 enters the confines of the station
whilst at the head of Derby to New Street service on 3rd June 1925. Built in
September 1886 at Derby works as a member of the MR's 1738 class, No 375
remained in service until July 1929. The locomotive is carrying a No 2 shed
plate indicating that it is still carrying a Midland shed plate, one from the
Burton district. Note too the water guards in front of the locomotive's bogie
wheels, an almost standard feature for MR locomotives because of the amount of
double heading the company adopted. The reason being was that when picking up
water from troughs the following locomotive would be drenched and there was a
danger of water entering axle and wheel bearings and causing damage.
