The upper quadrant signal is permitting the former Midland Railway 3F to draw forward. In the centre in the background there appear to be a number of horse-drawn wagons standing. Birmingham Central Goods station was one of the three major goods depots that lay within the City of Birmingham and was the last to open. Originally opened on 1st July 1887 as Worcester Wharf, the depot lay between Holliday, Allport, Suffolk and Navigation Streets. Expansion of the depot saw the name being changed on 1st June 1892 to 'Birmingham Central Goods Depot' which it carried until its closure on 17th December 1967.
