Close up showing the timber planking being transferred to horse-drawn road vehicles for onward distribution

Close up of image 'mrcgy915' showing the timber planking being transferred to horse-drawn road vehicles for onward distribution. In this view there are two sets of double sidings with a road in between wide enough to accommodate two rows of horse-drawn vehicles. On the left at the back a man is standing on planking of different lengths with some overhanging the rear of the vehicle by as much as forty percent of their length. In the foreground behind the Caledonian Railway (C R) wagon, three men are about to transfer timber planking to an adjacent road vehicle. In this instance the open wagon has been loaded with timber shorter than the wagon and therefore laid flat until the timber has reached the same height as the sides of the five-plank wagon. Above this height longer timber has been loaded but as was standard practice, the overhang was just to one side of the wagon. On the right behind the two men a metal frame seat belonging to a horse-drawn road vehicle can be seen.
