Camp Hill Station: mrch856
Looking towards Birmingham from the Brighton Road end of Camp
Hill station's down platform. Both platforms were originally much shorter and
built with brickwork. At a later date as trains became much longer the two
platforms were extended but using large timber for the framing and timber
planking for the surface. The buildings erected on the timber portion of both
platforms are also constructed using timber. This was not only a quicker and
cheaper method of building such structures but when on an embankment, which
Camp Hill was, much lighter requiring less substantial foundations.
