LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

An unidentified ex-MR 0-6-0 3F locomotive is seen coupled to the rear of another goods train whilst heading another. This rarely photographed procedure saved a 'block working' meaning that twice the number of trains could pass through this section than would otherwise be the case. In the Birmingham area Bob Essery reports that in addition to Camp Hill line other places this procedure was allowed included Landor Street Junction to Lifford Station Junction or Kings Norton, Water Orton junction to Water Orton station junction and Saltley Street junction to Landor Street junction.
