LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham

Cofton Tunnel: mrcof1668

An unidentified ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 locomotive and an LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive are being employed on works trains

An unidentified ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 locomotive and an LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive are being employed on works trains. The locomotives are standing on the running lines which were laid in the embankment leading up to the old tunnel and would have been used to primarily to move the spoil from the site. Logan and Hemingway, the contractors, employed two Manning Wardles at the site and their locomotive shed can be seen, upper right. The bridge, which is a permanent structure on the left over the permanent way, has been extended using a temporary bridge. Once the cutting being widened has been lowered to the correct level a bridge abutment will be constructed and permanent girders installed.
