Kingsbury station's ramshackled up platform when viewed
looking south towards Whitacre Junction in 1956. On the right is a parcels shed
created from a former coach with its windows now boarded up for security. Vic
Mitchell & Keith Smith state in their book 'Birmingham to Tamworth &
Nuneaton that the population grew from 2,747 in 1901 to 6,358 in 1961. Despite
this increase being generated by the availability of commuter services to New
Street it doesn't appear to have been enough for the Midland Railway, and its
successors, to have invested in the facilities of the station beyond that
provided by the Birmingham & Derby Joint Railway in 1839.
