Close up of image 'mrk438' showing the stationmaster's very
small house which aslso formed the end of the up platform. The staggered end of
the down platform can quite clearly be seen. The two platform lamps in view are
lit by an oil lamp placed inside a glass sided triangular shaped housing. Each
lamp would require the staff to light it every night and to keep it constantly
filled. In the early years, when even country stations like Kingsbury were
generously staffed, the lot of cleaning and trimming the wicks was the
responsibility of the most junior member of staff.
