View showing Kings Heath Signal Box and the short siding located at the Camp Hill end of the down platform. The box was responsible for the section of the line which included the station and would receive and pass on permissions for trains to enter or leave the section by contacting the adjacent boxes. However it was also responsible for all the turnouts within the section and this required wherever possible visible communications. Therefore the height and location of the box was to enable the signalman to see beyond and under the bridge to the north, where the junction to Ballast Pit sidings was located, whilst still maintaining sight of the connection of the main line with the goods yard at the south end of the station.
