British Railways built Ivatt 4MT No 46454 runs tender first through Kings Heath with a guards van on its way to Camp Hill

British Railways built Ivatt 4MT No 46454 runs tender first through Kings Heath with a guards van on its way to Camp Hill on 28th September 1966. Built at Crewe works in April 1950 No 46454 was an LMS design commissioned by British Railways until it had evaluated best practice across the big four (GWR, LMS, LNER and SR). Both Ivatt's 2MT and 4MT classes were adopted as the basis of new British Railways designs albeit with some component being replaced by superior designs from the other companies. Within days of this photograph being taken No 46454 was retired being withdrawn from service in October 1966 from 2E Saltley shed to be scrapped in March 1967 by J Cashmore of Newport.
