LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Kings Heath Station: mrkh725
Looking south towards Gloucester in 1886 showing the
replacement Queen's bridge and the station through the arch. On the right is
the Ballast Pit sidings whilst on the left is the post for the replacement home
signal waiting for the arm to be fitted. The signal was to be lit by gas and
the pipe feeding the lamp can be seen on the right of the post. as was standard
MR practice, the wooden keys holding the rails in place on the chairs are
fitted to the inside of the track. This practice enabled the Permanent Way team
to inspect both sets of rails in a single pass compared to having the keys on
the outside which required two passes, one for each rail.
