View of the Permanent Way hut situated alongside the three
lever ground frame at the entrance to the goods yard. The chimney on the right
of the building indicates that this section, the larger of the two rooms, would
be where railway staff would have had their mess facilities whilst the room on
the left would have been used as a store for tools and equipment. The brick
built building has subsequently had its roof re-covered using roofing felt, but
as can be seen by the refraction of light, the slates that originally protected
the building from inclement weather are still in place but under the felt.
