British Railways categories a Type 8 working as a ''through freight train NOT fitted with the automatic brake. Maximum speed 35 mph. Where fitted vehicles are required to be placed next to the engine and coupled up, this will be shewn in the appropriate regional train loading instructions'. Built by Crewe works in June 1956, No 92085 remained in service until December 1966 when it was withdrawn from 8H Birkenhead's Mollington Street shed to be scrapped by Woodham Brothers of Barry in South Glamorgan.
