View of a new footbridge being installed in early 1926 at the Northfield end of Kings Norton station. The footbridge being erected by the travelling crane is that seen in image 'mrkn526'. A new footbridge was required because the station had been widened to accommodate four platforms as part of the work to quadruple the lines to Barnt Green. LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 4040, with Deeley tender, is seen at the head of the short train and would be used to propel the crane into a position to lower its load into place. Built by the LMS at Derby works in January 1925 No 4040 lasted in service for forty years being withdrawn from Kirkby-in-Ashfield shed in November 1964 to be scrapped by Arnott & Young Company of Parkgate and Rawmarsh in March 1965.
