Ex-MR 0-6-0 4F No 4040, just a few months after being outshopped new, pauses during its duties in the goods yard on 19th April 1925. The 0-6-0 still retains its number on the tender sides, an Midland Railway practice adopted in the early days of the LMS. Built by Derby works in January 1925 No 4040 remained in service until it was withdrawn in November 1964 from Kirkby-in-Ashfield shed to be scrapped in March 1965 by Arnott & Young of Parkgate and Rawmarsh.
