MR 4-4-0 2P No 501 is piloting class member MR 4-4-0 2P No 414 on an express train during August 1921. Both locomotives are members of the MR's 483 class built by Sharp Stewart with No 501 being built in November 1899 and 414 in May 1892. Typical of this class both were in service for a long time, No 501 until June 1949 when it was withdrawn from 20D Normanton shed to be scrapped by Derby works circa 1949 and No 414 in January 1957 when it was withdrawn from 17B Burton-on-Trent shed to be scrapped by Derby works in Jan 1957.
