Close up of the 'Empties' shed which was located to the left of the original B&DJR passenger station. Its believed that the reference to 'Empties' refers to the containers used to transport goods rather than the rail vehicles. It was not uncommon for manufacturers or retailers to charge extra for a container which would be redeemed when returned. Most children from the immediate post-war era will recall collecting beer and pop bottles and retuning them to the local office and being paid 3d for each one.
