LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Moseley Station: mrms852a
Close up of image 'mrms852' showing the 'new' general
passenger waiting room erected on Moseley Station's down platform. The building
would have been erected in response to the rise in passenger numbers from the
mid-1890s. The Midland Railway had with the opening of the Lifford Curve
introduced a circular service starting and finishing at New Street and
travelling via Camp Hill and the Birmingham West Suburban railway. This
unfortunately came at the same time that competition from public transport in
the form of trams and later buses started. The regularity, lower fares and more
convenient routes made it increasingly difficult for 'inner' city stations to
compete.
