LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Nuneaton Abbey Street Station: mrna1095b
Close up of image 'mrna1095' showing the three-car Craven
DMU set being used on the Birmingham to Leicester services. Later classified by
British Rail as Class 105 or 106 Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) they were built
by Cravens Ltd of Sheffield from 1956 to 1959. The difference in class
reflected only the motive power, the 105 Class using 2 x AEC 150 bhp (112 kW)
whilst the 106 Class used 2 x Leyland 150 bhp (112 kW). Designed for low
density services the class were built with a side profile identical to British
Railways Mark 1 carriage stock, using the same doors and windows. None were
selected for refurbishment and the last passenger car was withdrawn from
service in 1988.
