LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Nuneaton Abbey Street Station: mrna1916
A view of the front elevation of Nuneaton Abbey Street
station its later British Railways days. The station was opened on 1st
September 1873 to cater for the Ashby & Nuneaton services as the original
station (see the plan in the image 'mrna1949') had
been aligned for the Leicester line. The connecting line to the LNWR, which was
to the 'north' of the original station, precluded the possibility of just
adding additional platforms.
