LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Nuneaton Abbey Street Station: mrna1929
An unidentified ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 locomotive heads a Class J
mineral train past Abbey Street goods yard in the 1960s. The 4F was the scourge
of the North Western men at Nuneaton. They were not liked at all at Nuneaton
shed because of inadequate bearing surfaces and they were prone to run short of
steam. The Midland 3F 0-6-0 was a good engine but when Derby works enlarged
them to a 4F they were inadequate. The Midland goods shed at Abbey Street is
seen in the background as are a rake of stone hoppers ex-Judkins.
