Fixed to the gas lamppost is a British Railways 'totem' sign displaying the name of the station. This design, together with the corporate colours of BR's Midland Division - Maroon and Straw Yellow - was introduced circa 1954. Other signs seen above include 'Gentlemen' and 'Way Out' both with yellow lettering on a maroon background.
