LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton

Looking towards Water Orton along the down line towards the closed goods yard and station circa 1969. The goods yard closed on 11th April 1960 whereas the passenger station closed on 4th March 1968 after nearly one hundred and four years of existence. Despite being closed for nearly ten years the turnouts to the goods sidings are still in-situ as is part of the former branch to Stockingford Colliery and at least one siding. The cable ducting being laid alongside the track and the rear of the down platform for the new colour aspect signalling being introduced in September 1969 with the opening of Saltley Power Box would indicate that the photograph was taken during the winter of 1968-9.
