LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Stockingford Shed: mrs398
Ex-LMS 'Stanier Crab' No 42946 is seen standing in
Stockingford sidings ready to depart on an up freight. The photographer had an
advantage over the man-in-the-street in choosing where to take this photograph
as he was the engine's fireman. Nuneaton shed was synonymous with the Stanier
moguls as most, if not all, were allocated at one time or another over their
working lives. Built by Crewe works in November 1933 No 42946 was to remain in
service until November 1965 when it was withdrawn from 2B Oxley shed.
