LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Stockingford Shed: mrs403
Looking towards the front of the three-road shed with much
of the fabric of the building now gone. The roof trusses were designed to
accommodate the chimneys that extracted the smoke frm the shed. The pit between
the rails allowed access to the underside of the locomotive for servicing that
was required on every locomotive prior to its daily work. Peter Lee in his book
'Railways of Nuneaton and Bedworth' states that at the time of the
photograph the centre road was still connected to the mainline. The road on the
right ran through the shed as there was a door at the rear to provide access to
the tracks outside at the rear of the building.
