Stockingford Station: mrs405

Looking towards Water Orton with the goods yard on the right and the former shed on the left. An unidentified ex-LMS 0-6-0 4F hauls a train of coal wagons past another locomotive standing in Stockingford goods yard on 16th April 1959. The photograph shows the relationship of the now disused shed, its water tower can be seen on the left, the goods yard on the right and the station whose platforms are in the foreground. Peter Lee in his book 'The Railways of Nuneaton and Bedworth' confirms that the water tower is still in use providing water to the yards' water columns. Of note is the lamp post on the left which is similar to those seen on the Nuneaton to Coventry line as well as the signal arm which is hung off a cantilevered post. The signal is an upper quadrant signal which means that when its in the 'off' position, giving right of way to passing trains, it would be clearly seen.
