Ex-MR 3P 4-4-0 No 711, a member of the MR's 2606 class, is seen standing alongside Saltley shed's original coaling stage with the fireman taking on water. Built by Derby works in January 1902, No 711 remained in service until March 1949 and although it was allocated the No 40711 by British Railways it was never applied before it was withdrawn from Derby shed to be scrapped shortly afterwards by Derby works.
