LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 8545, a Royston shed locomotive, is seen standing alongside Saltley shed's Sand Drying Plant at the corner of No 3 roundhouse on 28th September 1947. Built at Darlington in February 1945 under the direction of the War Department, No 8545 remained in service for twenty years being withdrawn in February 1967 to be scrapped in August 1967 by Drapers Ltd of Hull.
