Another close up of image 'mrsalt113' showing the corner of No 3 roundhouse with views of firebricks being unloaded from an open wagon and moved by the hand cart to be stacked in the corner of the shed. Locomotives had brick arches constructed inside and at the front of their fireboxes to direct the heat and flames back towards the firedoor at the rear. Without the arch, flames would be sucked straight into the tubes of the boiler and only the front of the box would receive heat. The brick arches required periodic replacement due to the extreme heat to which they are subjected.
