BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92087 eases on to the turntable inside Saltley shed's No 3 roundhouse

BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92087 eases on to the turntable inside Saltley shed's No 3 roundhouse. As is evident from the image seen below the turntable was only just long enough to handle BR's mighty freight engine. The fireman is standing alongside the vacuum powered and controlled turntable mechanism. To the left of the 9F is ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 44776 and ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48755. The Stanier 'Black 5', No 44776 was built in Crewe works in June 1947 and remained in service until October 1967 when it was withdrawn from 8F Springs Branch shed. Stanier's heavy freight locomotive No 48755 was built by the LNER's Doncaster Plant in October 1946 and was to remain in service until September 1966 when it was withdrawn from 2E Saltley shed. Riddles' 9F heavy duty freight locomotive No 92087 was built by Swindon works in August 1956 and remained in service until February 1967 when it was withdrawn from 10A Carnforth shed.
