LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 45253 stands inside Saltley shed's No 3 roundhouse apparently undergoing maintenance. Alongside the locomotive are what appears to be superheater tubes which combined with the smokebox door being open would indicate that they are being replaced. Built as LMS No 5253 by the Armstrong Whitworth Company in September 1936, No 45253 remained in service until April 1968 when it was withdrawn from 9F Heaton Mersey shed.
